The Lincoln Theatre sprang to life more than nine decades ago as a sparkling centerpiece of silent movie and vaudeville entertainment. With amazing foresight, the Lincoln Theatre Center Foundation was created in 1987 by community members to take on the operations, theatre programming, and preservation and maintenance of this historic gem.

Thanks to a multi-year restoration program, strongly supported by our local community, this architectural beauty is as vital a part of our culture now as it was when it opened in 1926.

Today the theatre is home to a year-round schedule of vibrant performing and cinematic arts that uplift our lives, expose us to new ideas, and encourage our youth to follow their highest dreams.

The theatre's lively calendar of events includes independent movies, locally-produced plays, community cultural programs, school shows, programs to promote local talent, and national and international touring performers.

As one of the rare remaining theatres built during the golden age of cinema (1920s-1940s), and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lincoln Theatre endures as a special treasure for the performing arts in the heart of downtown Mount Vernon.
